FAQ and Troubleshooting
Want to know if Ultranet will work in your school? Do you have a general question about the software? Check this list of Frequently Asked Questions to see if your query is addressed:
-
What do I need to run Ultranet?
Ultranet is a web application, which means it is installed and operates on a web server. End-users therefore only require a modern web browser and internet connectivity.
The Ultranet server can either be situated on a local school network or outsourced to a data centre using Edtech's hosting service. If opting to install locally, the school will require a Windows server and a MS SQL database. Full technical details are provided in the Technical Specifications document (download links to the right).
-
What are the differences between hosted/local installations?
A local installation of Ultranet means it is installed on a school server, and operation costs are owned by the school.
Alternatively, the hosted solution means your Ultranet site is installed at a dedicated web-hosting data centre. Edtech utilises the business server hosting service provided by Maxnet. This provides an enterprise-level quality of service and high-speed connectivity, whilst also taking the hassle of purchasing hardware, maintenance and backups away from the school.
-
Can I use Ultranet on a dial-up connection?
Although Ultranet will load on a dial-up connection, certain features such as the Media Gallery, Tasks and uSpace will take a while to load due to the media-rich content. We recommend users to access Ultranet using a broadband connection.

-
Can Ultranet be used as our school website?
Yes indeed. In fact, a lot of schools opt to do this to save on costs and also appreciate the ease of publishing content using the intuitive tools—bypassing the need to wait for a web-master or ICT administrator to do it for each teacher/class.
-
How soon can an Ultranet site by set up for our school?
With efficient, detailed communication of setup data and documentation from the school, Ultranet can usually be established within 1-2 weeks of confirmation.
